Taizé

Over 400 visitors sing and pray together on this evening and light a sea of candles. Taizé is a small village in Burgundy, France. The ecumenical community based there is a destination for mainly young pilgrims from all over the world.

The Taizé services in Berlin Cathedral are strongly orientated towards the rules of the French brothers, but have developed their own profile over the years. Unlike in France, visitors do not sit on the floor, but in rows of pews. To ensure that there is still some movement, everyone can come forward and light candles. At the end, the sermon church is illuminated by hundreds of lights.

The Taizé service is characterised above all by the short, catchy Taizé chorales that are repeated over and over again. As in Taizé, the prayers are also sung in Berlin Cathedral. Visitors are led and accompanied by choristers, a choir and instrumentalists.

Participation as a singer or with an instrument is possible at any time.
