Cathedral Choir Director Adrian Büttemeier

Born in Gütersloh in 1994, Adrian Büttemeier has served as Choir Director of the Berlin Cathedral Choir since July 2022. He studied Church Music, majoring in Conducting, with an emphasis on Choral Conducting, with Professor Anne Kohler at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold. He studied for two semesters as an exchange student at the Royal College of Music of Stockholm, attending Professor Fredrik Malmberg’s choral conducting course.

Büttemeier completed his postgraduate studies in choral conducting with distinction in April 2023, with Professor Georg Grün at the Hochschule für Musik Saarbrücken. He participated in master classes with Simon Halsey, Stefan Parkman, and Denis Rouger, working with the WDR Rundfunkchor, the KammerChor Saarbrücken, and the Philharmonischer Chor Berlin.

He completed his Master’s Degree in Protestant Church Music in July 2019. While studying Organ with Martin Sander and Improvisation with Tomasz Adam Nowak, Büttemeier participated in master classes with Arvid Gast and Wolfgang Zerer, among others. He was simultaneously a scholarship holder at the Conducting Forum of the German Music Council and a recipient of the Germany Scholarship of the Studienfonds OWL Foundation.

Alongside his regular duties, Büttemeier is a choir coach at the “Servicestelle Chor und Zukunft,” a project of the Choir Association of the Protestant Church in Germany. He currently has a teaching assignment at the Universität der Künste Berlin since the Winter Semester 2024-2025, teaching the C-Seminar in Choir Director Education.
