Liturgical Vespers

Since 1997, there has been a permanent organisation of Liturgy of the Hours at Berlin Cathedral. On the first Monday of every month, we celebrate liturgical vespers at the altar of St Peter, together with members of the Order of St John and the Order of Malta.

The Liturgy of the Hours originates from the monastic tradition of praying together at different times of the day. To this day, it is the basis of all monastic communities. It is also practised in many cathedral churches, including Berlin Cathedral. We celebrate Liturgical Vespers, the church's evening prayer, publicly, ecumenically and together with members of the cathedral community, visitors and members of the Order of St John and the Order of Malta. The psalms and prayers are sung in Gregorian chant.
